The Maltipoo (sometimes called a Maltidoodle) is a cross between a Maltese and a Toy Poodle. The Maltipoo cross is made to create a distinct appearance, as well as providing the Poodle’s hypoallergenic coat and is good for allergy sufferers. They exhibit “hybrid vigor,” (the fact that the first cross between two unrelated purebred lines is healthier and grows better than either parent line).
We breed both F1 and F1b Maltipoos. A F1 is a cross between a purebred Maltese and a purebred Toy Poodle whereas a F1b is a cross between a F1 Maltipoo and a Toy Poodle. Maltipoos come in a wide variety of sizes, but most are 6-15 inches at the withers and weigh 5-15 pounds. They have a lifespan of 11-13 years.
Coat
The Maltipoo coat can range from the silky texture of the Maltese coat to the Poodle’s distinctive frizzy coat. There can be many colors; our puppies range in color from light to dark apricot with white markings. Most shed little or none, making them a good match for allergy sufferers.
Character
Maltipoos have won over many with its distinctive charm. They are an intelligent, loving dog, devoted to its family. They require frequent human companionship; they are usually a lively dog that loves to play and them or curl up on the couch for a nap.
The Maltipoo gets along well with dogs and other pets if socialized when young. They get along very well with children, but should be supervised around young children to ensure they are treated respectfully. They may be wary of strangers and are highly protective of their family.
The Maltipoo is eager to learn and should not present many difficulties in training. Positive reinforcement is likely to be the most successful approach. This breed may take a while to house train.
Most of its exercise needs are met by indoor play and activities, but it also enjoys walks or playtime in the yard. They are an excellent breed for apartment life.
